Oak Harbor Military Base
If you're traveling light enough to catch the bus, there's a Greyhound station not far from NAS Whidbey. The address is 105 E Kincaid St ste 100, Mt Vernon, WA 98273. You can connect to hubs across the country here. The nearest Greyhound station is only a half hour taxi ride away.

If you're flying into your new home in NAS Whidbey, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is your closest choice. This is the main airport serving flights from almost all places.
With the nearby Amtrak stop at Stanwood, 43 minutes from the base, traveling by train is also convenient.
Since NAS Whidbey Island is in the northwest corner of the country, there aren't many directions for you to go to get here. So take this general Northwest route and adapt it to your personal circumstances.

To enter through any gate at NAS Whidbey Island, you will need ID and some documentation. Make sure you bring with you your order, various forms of identification and registration of the vehicle you are driving, including the car rental contract. Your family will need the ID of their dependents. If they don't have one, they can apply at the DEERS office. This is one of the most important check-in procedures for incoming employees, but be sure to report to the Deck Station Officer at Building 385 as soon as possible for further instructions.
The visitor center at NAS Whidbey is a public access point. This is where your identity will be verified, and the identities of any family or guests who come to visit the base for functions or other events.
The DEERS office is the place to apply for your military ID or get a new one if you lose it. This is where your family will apply for ID cards of their dependents which will allow them to enter and exit Aadhaar easily. You can fill out an application and make an appointment online.

It's quite a distance from Seattle, but if your heart is set on city life, there's no better choice. Choose to live in America's major cities and you will have the world open to you. Bellingham is the capital of Whatcom County, and is about a 50-minute drive from the base. It is a good sized city with a population of around 100,000 people. There's so much to see and do here. Bellingham has an urban feel without being too overwhelming to navigate. This is a great place for someone looking to access lots of amenities while still being closer to home base than Seattle.
Mount Vernon is another county seat, this time in Skagit County. It's a city of just over 31,000 people, so not as big as Bellingham, but with a decent amount of stuff to keep you entertained. The town hosts an annual tulip festival and ranks highly on lists of the best small towns in the country. Like many towns and cities in the area it was founded with the timber industry in mind.

La Conner is a city for people who like to walk slowly. With a population of less than 1,000, there won't be much of an obstacle for your quiet days around here. The city center is lined with historic streets and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The city is home to the Museum of Northwest Art and the famous Rainbow Bridge. La Connor is less than half an hour's drive from NAS Whidbey Island.
Anacortes is another nearby town with a population approaching 16,000. The city has a long lineage, having been developed by the Oregon Improvement Company and local railroad tycoons, today has a heavy fishing industry and is known for its popular ferry service. Anacortes is only 20 minutes north of the base by car.
Port Townsend is the capital of Jefferson County. It is home to around 10,000 people. The city's historic district is a National Landmark. This is another city alive thanks to railroads and industrial growth in the Pacific Northwest. It is now home to a large arts community, an annual sailing event, a marine science center and more. Port Townsend is an hour south of NAS Whidbey by car.
Greenbank is the place to really blend in with the ground and disappear on duty. This unincorporated community has a population of around 250 people. It is home to historic buildings, boutique shopping, event spaces, marshland and more. Local vineyards have sprung up around the area. Greenbank is only a half hour drive from the base.

There are two main school districts around NAS Whidbey Island: Anacortes and Coupeville. Each has a number of schools in all grades and both serve children K-12.
