Looking for a great place to park your RV? Last year, we camped in military camps for 152 days. We love staying at military bases and always find them before any other camp. There are hundreds of military camps in amazing locations with luxurious amenities just waiting for you.
Campground fees will vary from area to area, with an average daily rate of around $15-$30 per night. Since we started as full-time RVers, we pay between $19-50 per night and $450 per month. Although military camps are cheaper than local camps, they provide the same facilities.

You may be surprised to find beach access, lake access, or spectacular mountain views on military bases. While staying at the Air Force Academy, we had great views of the Colorado mountains and left our campsite at Pensacola Air Force Station and the Fourth Cliff Recreation Area on the beach. Beautiful sunsets are also offered over the Potomac River at Fort Belvoir.
Other amenities may include laundry facilities, gym, dog park, WiFi, playground, cabin rentals, and more. Wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, and other animals call the military bases home, which will add to your spectacular views.
When you stay in a military camp, many basic amenities can be used. A good place to start is the Tours and Tickets office. They can provide information on things to do in the area as well as discounts for local attractions. The Morale, Welfare and Recreation office should be your second stop. They can provide rentals for things like boats, kayaks, skis, snowboards, or other outdoor equipment to enhance your stay. Basic amenities may include a commissary, gas station, convenience store, pool, and gym.
When traveling to new places, it can be difficult to know which places are safer than others. Military camps ensure the security and safety of the installation. It's a break that won't require you to look up crime statistics on the internet. You can also stop by base security for tips on places to avoid when exploring the local area.
Ideas For Family Vacations In Pensacola & Pensacola Beach
Military campgrounds also provide a wonderful community of savvy RVers. Military culture is unlike any other, and when you stay on a military base, you will be among people with common experiences. This is a great place to expand your community and possibly your circle of friends.
There are many resources that can help you find the perfect military camp. Military Life (save $5 with our code: YMRV-IBF-Save5) is a great resource for all kinds of military travel, including camp information. Each branch of the military also has its own resources: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard. An often overlooked resource is the Morale, Welfare and Recreation office at your local base. So don't forget to go for information.
Military camps are available for active duty, retirees, reserves, and some Department of Defense personnel. And starting in January 2020, they are open to any veteran who receives a qualifying assessment through the VA. See our blog How Veterans Gain Access to Military Camps for more information.
So, when you're looking for a campground, be sure to find out if there's a military camp nearby because it's the perfect place to park your RV. And when you get there, hang around because we might be there too!

From I-10, take exit 7A onto Pine Forest Road, onto Blue Angel Parkway to NAS Pensacola. Follow the signs to the National Naval Aviation Museum. The campsite is at the base. Enter the base from the rear entrance of Blue Angel Parkway at Radford Blvd. Watch for a small sign pointing to the campground. The campground is .5 miles west of the lighthouse.
Oak Grove was our first official family RV trip and we loved it. It's nice and neat. It is not far from the pool and the sea.
To get to Oak Grove, use the West Gate via Blue Angel PKWY. If you enter the main entrance, and don't know your way to the base, you can easily access the old Seabees entrance area with block nets that are not RV friendly. We checked into the small camp (CG)…
